About the Institute

The aim of the Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences of the University of Iceland (LUVS) is to promote research in the field of life and environmental sciences and thereby contribute to the University of Iceland's long-term goals of competitiveness with the best research universities in the world.

Research conducted at the Institute contributes to the development of the business sector in Iceland, innovation and value creation for the benefit of Icelandic society in the spirit of the University's goals.

Research

Research within the Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences is carried out in two units, the Biology unit and the Geography and tourism unit.

Research groups within the institute conduct research that usually falls under one or more research fields.

Research staff within the Institute is also involved in cooperation, both with foreign and domestic parties, and the results of their research are presented through lectures, conferences and publications in books and peer-reviewed journals.
